The Dream Big Friends Kickstarter from Bigshot Toyworks is Live!

There's nothing that pulls on your heartstrings quite like little dreams.  I just finished reading a book and all one of the characters wanted to do was grow up and work in an office.  Oh, you mean like the first office on the ocean floor or something right?  Nope, just an old boring office with a fax machine that makes a hideous noise and a copier that eats toner like a Christmas ham.  Mind you the girl was a clone who was only around so her organs could be harvested to keep regular folks alive, but still, have you heard of a dream that was smaller than that?  It depressed me.

Yuna has much bigger dreams, specifically that she wants to own a commercial rocket company and to visit Mars.  And she loves cats, which makes her pretty awesome in my book.  She is the brainchild of Bigshot Toyworks and the folks behind Uglydolls, Sun Min Kim and David Horvath and is intended to fuel a child's imagination through focusing on the world around them.  And yeah, it's a little different than the stuff I normally write about, but I have two nieces and I'd rather them grow up and feel that anything was possible rather than be consumed by whether their make up looks good or if their clothes are on trend.

Yuna needs your help though if she is to inspire girls around the world.  Right now there is a Kickstarter campaign to help fund the production costs needed to make her a reality.  For only $40 you can get one of these 10 inch dolls featuring real clothes and her little cat buddy, Kamata.  There are other reward levels as well that include button packs and graphics for your wall and every little bit goes towards making this happen.  They have a lot of money left to raise so visit this link, pledge what you can, and give girls out there a positive roll model to look up to and dream with.

Seen at NYCC: Bigshot Toyworks

This is wasn't the first year that Bigshot Toyworks was at New York Comic Con, but it is the first time that they were not only selling their wares, but had an exclusive available.   The Hellfire Lil Maddie looked amazing in clear red and in a smaller size that the original 6 inch figure.  Their booth was filled with items from the Four Horsies of the Pocalypse line, but it was one particular prototype I was the most excited to see, as it was the first time it had been displayed in public.

You used to have a lot of options if you were a Dalek fan and wanted to collect his figures, but it's been a number of years since anything has been released.  Well that's all about to change, as you can see from this Space Monkey prototype.  No word on a release date, but being there's an actual three dimensional representation of it, I'd have to assume we'll be seeing it sooner than later.

My Top 10 Exclusives for This Year's New York Comic Con

Let me tell you how prepared I am for New York Comic Con:  I went out today and got a flu shot.  I normally get one every year, and usually well before now, but there was no way I was gonna be pressed up against the sweaty, sniffling, masses without giving my immune system a chance at survival.  Plus, I'm totally out of sick days after The Great Kidney Stone of 2015 and I ain't trying to not get paid, suckas. So the only thing I have left to do is prepare my credit cards to be used and abused and to present to you my top 10 favorite exclusives I've seen for this year's convention.

Now this isn't one of those arbitrary lists with random numbers like Buzzfeed puts out there.  I have respect for the sanctity of the top 10 list and damn it without some sort of tradition we're just a bunch of apes rubbing sticks on the rocks to poke each other with.  I will not be poked by an uncouth monkey!  Speaking of ape-like creatures, the top dude you see there is the brand spankin new Wing Kong from Super7.  I love it.  It's a monkey, who looks pissed off, and he's got wings.  That's pretty much the total package.  Available at booth 174.

And speaking of horrible illness, check out this infected Dunny from Scott Wilkwoski x Kidrobot.  See, this is the type of thing that I am confident my flu shot will protect me from.  Available in purple or grey and only $60 each, you better be quick to the Clutter Magazine booth # 603 to get one.

If I were to ride a horse, which I'm not saying I will, I would hope that it would be a demonic hell pony with a tentacle mouth and bat wings.  Oh, what a coincidence, I happen to have one right here.  Bigshot Toyworks has these Lil Maddie figures at booth #208 just in time to rustle up your demonic cows and send them to the demonic slaughterhouse for processing into demonic burgers.

Is it an ice cream cone?  Is it candy corn?  Is it andy corn flavored ice cream?  Is it ice cream cosplaying as candy corn?  I don't know, but now I have a headache thinking about it.  Kozik's Monger Jerome from Rotofugi x Squibbles Ink is looking very Halloween-y in this paint job.  I need one and you do too only at booth # 603.

Oh let me tell you how I love some marbled vinyl.  It's like the sweet patina of the plastic world.  These Cestodas from Miscreation Toys are the size of a small child without the nagging.  Mishka will have these available at booth # 110.  Bing a back brace to carry this sucker.

I have yet to even see what the latest Shub Zeroth figure from Meta Crypt looks like, but I am so confident that it couldn't possibly suck that I'm adding it to my list.  Go pay a visit to Brian Ewing at booth # 120 for some killer art and metaphysical plastic.

I love snow cones, so now you can add that to the list of facts you know about me.  I hope that a snow cone never turns on me like this crazy dude from Jason Limon x Martian Toys.  Damn, this is a great figure and available at booth # 203.

CATS!  It's huge, it's a cat, and I need it.  Komatsu x myplasticheart have a special release of this new Daioh Negora at booth 113 and I'm gonna try and get one cause I'm that kind of pimp.

Another Dunny and another item I have to own.  Like, I won't die per se if I don't get one, but I wouldn't stand to close cause I may rage out.  doubleparlour killed this and it's debuting at booth # 603.

The award for "most adorable freakin thing at comic con" goes to these Sleepytime Sea Bunnies from Peter Kato.  They are limited to 30 pieces and will be available from the Piq Products booth # 614 starting tomorrow.

Bigshot Toyworks Exclusive Hellfire Lil Maddie for NYCC

You wanna know what's weird?  Seeing cows on the side of a mountain.  Check this picture out:

And these weren't even the most precariously positioned cows we saw, these were just the ones I was able to get a picture of.  There were some elsewhere that were literally chilling on the side of a cliff, eating grass and going about their business like there was nothing weird happening.  I always thought of cows as kinda fat and clumsy, but apparently they are sure-footed extreme sports enthusiasts.  There would always be one in the group that had something to prove and would have like half his butt hanging over the edge like it was no big deal.  I pulled the car over and tried to reason with them but they didn't find my argument compelling enough to come down and be normal field cows like everyone else.  It just made me nervous seeing them graze so high above the road.

We saw a lot of deer out west too, which isn't that big of a deal because everyone has deer, until you realize that these deer aren't scared of anything and you could reach your hand right out of the car and slap one if you wanted to.  Not that you would, cause that would make you a sicko, but I was impressed cause New Jersey deer act like you're the police and they're carrying unregistered handguns.

Our other animal sightings included big horn sheep, qual, magpies, and a city mouse at the Philadelphia airport.  Oh, and we saw a ton of ponies.  I bet you thought I'd never relate this story back to the toy, but that makes you a non believer and I should shun you.  But I won't cause I'm totally into this abusive relationship we have.

Bigshot Toyworks is coming to New York Comic Con and they're bringing this super sick Hellfire Lil Maddie with them!!!! A mere $30 will get you one of these clear red beauties from their booth #208, which is part of the Tenacious Toys collective (which is like a Burning Man camp for toy lovers but without the rich fake hippies or sand in your bikini zone).

Kozik x Kidrobot's Tribute to All Things Delicious

I am usually against posting sneak peaks because they lack all of the important details you, my very intelligent and quite attractive readers, need to make an informed purchase.  Today, I make an exception for all things that are both delicious and made of chicken.  Never have I loved something that causes me so much intestinal distress as I love KFC.  Even though I haven't had it in years (for my own health and that of public restrooms in Southern New Jersey) I can still taste the Colonel's original recipe like I just housed an entire bucket of deep fried heaven.  And let us not forget those delicious biscuits that they never give you enough of.  Fill a bucket up with those too my friend, and let us feast like peasant kings!!!

I've been following the developments of Frank Kozik's chicken man ever since he first posted up the beautiful 3D sculpts from Bigshot Toyworks, and now it looks like Kidrobot will be producing these suckers in the very near future.  Just look at these renders below and tell me with an honest heart that you don't want this:

See, you couldn't do it cause then you'd be a liar, and liars don't get any chicken in my house!!!  Let's bring a familiar friend back to tell you just how I feel about this toy:

Yes I do little otter buddy. Yes I do.

Super Awesome Fun Time Review Party Featuring Lil Maddie from Bigshot Toyworks

It's been awhile since I've gone full on crazy mode and done a toy review.  I just can't do these things all the time cause I put so much into them that I literally have to stay in bed for three days and recover afterwards, which is kinda not ok with where I work or my wife when she has to throw the sheets out.  We have a king size bed and those things are freakin expensive.  Have you ever noticed the price difference between a queen and king size mattress let alone a set of luxurious sheets?  It's like the sleep industry got together and determined that people who are living like ballers/morbidly obese shut-ins are gonna get railroaded for that extra bit of comfort that a larger mattress provides.  And even with pillow top goodness the size of Grenada, one of the cats will inevitably puke near my face.  Not like, every night, but it's happened once or twice and was scary enough that I think I have phantom puke syndrome now.  Don't waste your time asking your shrink about it because they'll say it's not a thing but I know what I go through each time the slightest noise is made while I'm asleep.  I got hairball shell shock.

Do you see now why I can't review toys too often?  I just wrote an entire college essay about filthy linens and cat vomit.  I've got to be in line for a Pulitzer, or Grammy, or something, cause this stuff is gold.  Ok, so what we have to talk about today is a purple demon pony named Lil Maddie from Bigshot Toyworks.  I'm gonna go all hipster on you now and tell you about how I was waaaaaay into this before it was ever cool.  That's because Klim from Bigshot posted a picture on his Facebook page with the original art and I knew right then that it had to be a real toy.  So after annoying him with comments like "Hey, this should be a real toy" or "Take my money now" he actually listened and made it into an object that is now making people happy the world over.  I haven't had a good delusion of grandeur for awhile, so I'm gonna keep this one nice and shiny in the old frontal lobe and admire just how impressive it really is.

Basically, Maddie looks like if Cthulhu got it on with a My Little Pony and they made the coolest love child since Teen Mom 2.  This figure is everything you could want in a toy meant to bring about the end of days.  A killer idea, executed perfectly down to the smallest detail, and it looks real nice on my shelf.

Now I know what you're thinking (we've been over the fact that I've got your place tapped). You wanna know how to get one for yourself.  I'm gonna tell you.  There are actually a couple of ways to buy this, and the first is to go to the Bigshot Toyworks shop at http://bigshottoyshop.com.  The second, and perhaps the one you'll find the most interesting, is by supporting the Kickstarter for The Four Horsies of the 'Pocalypse that is coming to an end soon.  The project has surpassed its funding mark and now the super extra stretch goals are unleashing even more exclusive stuff.  Get in on all the excitement, and get some cool toys by visiting this link while there's still time.  If you miss this you'll have to live with the shame and regret for a lifetime, maybe even more.

The Four Horsies of the 'Pocalypse Kickstarter is Now Live

Let me tell you something, I've now watched two documentaries on the whole "Brony" thing and I am not a fan.  Each movie was filled with countless socially awkward men waxing poetic about friendship and other life lessons taught to them by little horses intended to amuse little girls.  Stop being wusses with your wussy shows!!!  Horses can be tough, and cool, and you don't have to try to hide them from your biker friends.  Just look, look with your man eyes and behold horses that are so tough they could bring about the actual end of the world!!

Keep your man cred while filling your toy shelves with The Four Horsies of the 'Pocalypse.  But like anything sinister and fun, they need you to open a door to this world and welcome them in.  Don't bother dusting off your Necronomicon though, cause the only way to make this set of figures from Bigshot Toyworks a reality it by supporting their Kickstarter campaign.  The coveted reward in obviously the four figures you see, but there are tons of other items for everyone's budget and interest, including a pretty amazing bust of their previously funded Maddie.  Leave those other ponies for the kids and get your hands on these by visiting this link.

All City Style Custom Show at PIQ in Grand Central Terminal This Weekend

New York can be an intimidating place, especially when it comes to the subway.  Not only is it confusing to figure out where you're going, but some of the stations look like they are preparing to film the next installment of the Saw franchise.  My best subway story, which I may or may not have told here before, started off innocently enough.  Sharon and I are standing on the platform, waiting for the train to arrive, and all of a sudden some lady pushes past us in disgust, continuously looking behind her, and mumbling "oh my God" over and over.  We turned to see what had got her in such a panic and no more than ten feet away from us was a grown man dropping the deuce.  Now when you think about pooping, which who doesn't, you picture someone squatting down.  Not this guy.  He was standing straight, sweat pants around his ankles, and growing a brown tail like it was as normal as checking your text messages.  Now try as I might to look away, I just couldn't.  It had nothing to do with the horror of what was happening as much as it had to do with making sure he came nowhere near us.  A man that will poop out in the open on a subway platform is a man that :

1.) is full of germs

2.) is probably a tad unstable and might decide that a stabbing is next on his to do list

He finished his business, pulled up his pants, and got on the train like nothing was out of the ordinary.  We walked three cars up from where he got on (the recommended distance you should always have between yourself and someone who's committed such an act) and went about the rest of our day unable to speak of anything else.

My point behind this story is to say that the subway could use some sprucing up, and I don't mean with the random spattering of Scientologists and American Idol hopefuls it has now.  Bigshot Toyworks remembers a time when you could at least see colorful, albeit illegal, artwork adorning the sides of every train.  So much so that they created the All City Style subway train car so artists now can relive those days when Times Square was more Mad Max than Disneyland, and riding the subway meant getting an art show to go along with your mugging.

A tone of artists have customized these cars to put on display this weekend at PIQ in Grand Central Terminal.  The show opens November 22nd and will feature tons of artists you know and love.  A listing of participants can be found in the picture waaaaaaaaay up at the top there.

Seen at New York Comic Con: Tenacious Toys

What's this?  Is it a picture of the elusive yeti?  The Loch Ness Monster?  No, it is you humble narrator, looking quite studious in the midst of conversation about some toy or another.  This rare image was snapped by Benny Kline of Tenacious Toys and thankfully I wasn't doing anything embarrassing at the time.  Though I was caught with my man purse, which comes in handy when you're trying to get rid of money like it's covered in ebola.  You gotta put all those toys somewhere.

Each year Benny takes the time to put together a giant collective booth of artists and companies that is kinda like it's own sustainable village.  They have their own fire department, sanitation system, and currency.  Ok, not really, but if they get any bigger the post office is gonna force them to get their own zip code.  Not that I'm complaining because you can never have too much stuff to look at.

My favorite thing at the booth was Bigshot Toywork's Four Horsies of the 'Pocalypse line.  I'm a little biased though, because I did support the Kickstarter for Maddie and have one of those coming my way any day now.  After getting to hold it I'm even happier to have supported its creation, because it is an amazing looking toy.  I already have a spot in my display case reserved for its arrival.

Take a gander at some photos I took and check out www.tenacioustoys.com for anything they might have left over from the convention.  Many more photos can be found at www.facebook.com/TheToyViking.

Things got weird after the second Death Star blew up.

The Big Push to Bring Little Maddie to Life

We're have officially one week left to go to make Little Maddie from Bigshot Toyworks a reality and there is still a lot of room to help and a lot of really cool rewards for doing so.  They've added the option to get a completely clear version of the figure that you can see here:

You can also pick up different customized versions of this Cthulhu-possessed horsey from the likes of Mark Nagata, Martin Hsu, Monster Kolor, Small Angry Monster, Nemo, and Mechavirus.  These will all be one of a kind so you'll have ultimate bragging rights if you snag one.  This is the first time I've ever personally backed a Kickstarter project and I really really want to see this thing succeed.  Not even just for me though, but for the people that have worked hard to create it.  Go to this link and help out any way you can.  Even if it's only a $1 you're still helping it get closer to goal.

Little Maddie Kickstarter from Bigshot Toyworks x Tenacious Toys

I have a confession to make.  I've never backed a Kickstarter before.  I write about them all the time but I've never been able to pull the trigger.  That being said, HOLY CRAP WHERE IS MY CREDIT CARD!!!!!  I've been waiting for this thing for months, and I'm going to take a moment and actually back this campaign right now, in real time, while you're reading this.  Give me a sec......................................................................................................................... Done.  I think that might be the first time that has ever happened on any toy blog.  Look at me, breaking boundaries and whatnot.  Alert the media so I can start doing interviews about how much of a pioneer I was today, to actually back a crowd funded toy as I was in the middle of writing about it.

Little Maddie is the brilliant creation of Bigshot Toyworks, combining The adorableness of My Little Pony with the classic tales of H.P. Lovecraft.  They teamed up with Tenacious Toys to start a campaign so this crazed horse can see the light of day.  If this one is successful they already have designs ready for four more that will mimic the four horsemen of the apocalypse.  This needs to happen people!!!!  Go, right now, to this link and fund this project cause I need this toy!!!!!!!!!!!

Freaky Fritz Hateball Sets from Frank Kozik

Yesterday I had jury duty.  I've never had jury duty before so I really didn't know what to expect.  They never have episodes of Law & Order where they focus only on the jury selection process, but it turned out to be kind of interesting.  At first we just sat in a room for three hours and I listened to everyone gripe about how they didn't want to be there, but when we got to the actual courtroom things got real interesting real quick.  The dude was on trial for murder and I desperately wanted to be on this jury.  Things were going swimmingly until the defense decided they would exercise their right to toss me out. When I was in college I had completed an internship with a local police department's forensic unit and I think that's what made him think twice.  Now I have to go to my regular job and listen to people gripe about why they don't want to be there.

That story is decidedly unrelated to these toys.  I just wanted to share with you how I spent my Monday.  I'm really excited to finally see these Freaky Fritz figures from Frank Kozik become available.  The great thing about the internet is it's allowed me to follow the process of their creation along, from his original drawings, to the digital sculpture by Bigshot Toyworks, to their eventual 3D forms in Japanese vinyl.  These sets come with two different size heads and two lucky customers will win one of the full figures as seen in the third picture.  They're limited to 30 sets and go on sale tomorrow, April 16th, at noon Pacific time for $65 with signed and numbered header cards.
