Seen at NYCC: Rsin and Matt Anderson

Rsin and Matt Anderson had a huge showing at New York Comic Con this year. They shared a booth with Tenacious Toys and brought a ton of custom figures with them for sale. Rsin also had his 3 inch production Dunny release with Kidrobot that was an exclusive to the show and caused quite the traffic jam as people lined up to score one. Matt Anderson debuted his artist series of Night Terror Dunnys and sold every one of them to a single person! Seriously, I stopped by the table to say hi, then came back about an hour later and there was a huge "sold" sign in his case. The buyer also bought a few of his other customs, nearly clearing out his inventory for the show in one transaction. And this was on the first day of the convention. It was definitely one of the best stories of the weekend and both he and Rsin deserved every bit of success. Check out some pictures from their setup:

My NYCC Experience

Well, we've been back from New York Comic Con for a few days now and I feel I have decompressed enough to form coherent thoughts about the show.

This year my wife and I were able to attend the Thursday "preview" day and it was a weird experience. There were a lot of people there, but not nearly the amount as usual because they only allowed the press and 4 day ticket holders in. So being able to move freely around the floor without having to elbow people in the heads was kinda weird. Friday definitely made up for that though, as the place was as packed as I've ever seen it. It made maneuvering a bit tougher, but the craziness felt right. Thursday I could buy anything I wanted but was kinda indecisive, but once Friday hit and people were clamoring for items I suddenly wanted everything as if it were a huge competition.

The highlight of the convention for me was getting to meet lots of new people and see some old friends that I only get to see once a year. I finally got to meet Peter Kato, Frank Kozik, Skinner, L'amour Supreme, Lou Pimentel, Erick Scarecrow, and Buff Monster. I bought toys from RealxHead and Uamou, who both made the trek to be there and finally snagged the elusive metallic Pop! Vinyl Batman figure.

The other highlight was watching guys staring at girls in skimpy costumes only for them to realize that they were actually dudes in skimpy costumes (surprisingly, this happened more than once).   The moment of realization on their faces is quite priceless.

It was overall a great time, and I can't even be mad about the ATMs breaking all over the place because that major snafu saved me a lot of money. But since I planned ahead I still left with tons of stuff. Here's a picture of all the stuff that came home with us:

As you can see, we kinda fell in love with the lucky cats.  Let that new obsession begin.

More NYCC Goodness from myplasticheart

Good Lord I can't keep up with all the exclusives myplasticheart has for New York Comic Con.  Here's a quick rundown of some of my favorites you can buy starting tomorrow.

Is this what happens if you microwave broccoli for too long?  It goes nuclear!!!!!  This is Sunshine Bevil from Paul Shih.  He only made 8 of these bad boy and they will be $60 each.

One of my favorite figures that I don't own any of, this Greasebat is designed by Jeff Lamm and this particular one is a tribute to the original prototype sculpted by Chauskosis.  One of these guys will run you $85.

Shawnimals has not one but 2 exclusive toys.  He's got the Zombie Takeout plush limited to 50 of each character, blind boxed, and $20 each.

And he's got these vinyl Pork O'lanterns that are both blind boxed and $12 each.

Finally we have Andrew Bell's Albino Edition of his Glop in a Box.  They are $100 each and 1 in 5 of them comes a little burnt on top.  Gotta wear that sunscreen.

Check out www.myplasticblog.com for more exclusive stuff.

Brutherford Industries: The Dork Knight Ice Scream Man at NYCC

You know this is the coolest (no pun intended) thing you've seen today.  Sure, maybe you've seen some great cat pictures, or that Danzig and Shakira mash up on Youtube, but this is the best.

Brutherford Industries has created this limited edition Dork Knight Ice Cream Man for New York Comic Con.  How limited?  Only 30 pieces limited.  These will sell for $110 at the Clutter Magazine booth #3004 starting on Thursday.  If you buy only one ice cream toy this year, I would make it this one.

More NYCC Exclusives from Monster Worship

Wanna see more stuff that Monster Worship is bringing to New York Comic Con?  Of course you do, don't be silly.  I'm loving the new Mini Greasebat from Jeff Lamm.  No word on a price yet, but if he's half as popular as his larger brother, it will most likely sell out fast.

This guy looks kinda like the dude they caught living in someone's basement on Hoarders.  Can you imagine having so much junk in your house that you don't even know another human being has made a nest for himself there?  I figure I'll hit that level of stuff in about another 10 years, so I'll let you know when it happens.  This is Black Heksen and he was created by Dwid Hellion.  His price is a mystery as well and quite honestly, he scares me a little.

A glow in the dark Altar Beast you say?  $45 you say?  I do say.  My goal is to have enough glow in the dark toys so I never have to buy light bulbs again.  I'll just charge em up on the porch then place them strategically around the house.

Visit Monster Worship at the Onell Designs booth #3216 at NYCC this week.   This will be one of my first stops when I get there Thursday.

Adventures In Plastic #3: Bury Me in A Comic Convention

I wrote this a while back and never did anything with it, so I figured I could share it with you in honor of New York Comic Con happening this week.

Comic book conventions are quite possibly the greatest invention the world has ever known.  They’re magical places where one can spend all their money on cool things instead of bills and no one is there to stop you.  In fact, they encourage it.  My idea of heaven involves walking around a convention for eternity with a credit card that never runs out of money.   And my wife dressed up as Slave Leia.  And I have a pet tiger. In a Slave Leia costume.  I have very specific dreams.

For a toy collector such as myself, the best thing about a convention is that just about every toy company will have something that is only available to people that attend.  But in order to score all those valuable pieces of plastic you can’t live without, you’re going to have to be prepared, which is why I created this handy guide to the world of conventions.

1.) Plan ahead:  As GI Joe always said “Knowing is half the battle.”  They never told us what the other half was, maybe it was “and pet cats all day”.   Maybe not, but f you plan on attending a convention it helps to make a list of all the stuff you want.  Once you enter these things they can get a bit overwhelming, and it really sucks to remember all the toys you needed on your way home.

2.) Eat Before You Go:  Anyone who is a veteran convention goer will tell you, you need all your strength to make it through the day.   That and the food they usually serve is only slightly better than what you’d get in prison.   Go ahead and risk it if you’re brave, but just remember you have to wait in line EVERYWHERE, including the bathroom.

3.) The Man Purse:  This is obviously for the guys out there.  I know carrying around a messenger bag is not in most of our daily routines, but you can make an exception for one day.  Trust me, it took a lot to get me to carry one the first time because I thought I was too tough for that.  But these become invaluable tools to stash all your purchases and the amazing amount of free stuff that people are giving away.  Plus, think about all the good karma you’ll earn by carrying your loved one’s stuff around too.

4.) Make Friends In Line: Emergencies may occur that would force you to get out of line.  That one girl in the Harley Quinn costume who is destined to be the mother of your children may walk by, or you just may need to pay the price for all of the energy drinks you consumed.  That’s why it’s important to make friends with the people you’re standing with.  Not only can they hold your place when you can’t hold your pee, but they may turn out to be cool people to be pals with.  I mean, you already know they like toys just as much as you do, which is more than most marriages have going for them.

5.) Bring Your Smartphone:  You know that gadget that you pay tons of money for every month?  Well now it could start paying you back because many toy companies use Twitter, Facebook, and other forms of social media to give away prizes.   Free toys?  Yeah, count me in.

6.) Dress Up:  Ok, so we all may be getting a little old for Halloween, but conventions are an excuse to transform ourselves by wearing costumes.  Some of the best times to be had are in watching all the people and the amazing amount of work that went into their costumes.  Don’t just be a bystander though, get your creative mind working and make one of your own.  Not only is it fun to freak regular folks out on your way to the convention, but you’ll feel like a celebrity as people ask all day to take your picture.

7.) Stay Calm:  You will probably get tired of standing around in line.  You will probably not be able to get everything on your list.  You will probably want to commit crimes out of frustration.

If you follow these tips you’re sure to have a great time.  You’re most likely going to be broke, but you’ll definitely enjoy yourself as you reach the poverty level.  And just think of all the shiny new toys you’ll have to show for it.
