"Death Rides Again" featuring Mike Egan, Doubleparlour, and Lurk at Toy Art Gallery

You may not know this, but I've been known to paint the occasional toy.  Granted, I haven't done anything in a while, but I'm trying to get more disciplined.  I could run down a prepared list of excuses that I just happen to have handy, but I'll spare you.  But seeing shows like this makes me want to get back on the creativity horse and ride that sucker into the sunset of success.  Didn't that sound like one of those motivational posters?

Toy Art Gallery is usually the place to be any day of the week, but it definitely is tomorrow for the opening of their Death Rides Again show.  This not only features the awesome work of Mike Egan, Doubleparlour and Lurk, but it will also feature the debut of vinyl toys from the latter two.  The opening runs from 7-10pm and Doubleparlour and Lurk will be to shake hands and kiss babies.

SDCC Exclusive Resin Bones Series from Killer Bootlegs x Mike Egan x DKE

I am officially ready to make my pick for greatest thing available at San Diego Comic Con this year. And being that my logic has proven to be beyond reproach, you're gonna want these so bad.  Killer Bootlegs shrunk Mike Egan's Bones figure down to action figure size and painted them, and get ready for this cause I'm about to push the whole thing over the top:  each card back was painted BY HAND by Mike!!!  This is as original as original art gets.  Who came up with this, because it is genius.  There are three different styles modeled after three different classic toy lines and only twenty of each version were produced.  These are exclusives for the fine folks at DKE, so I would make sure I hit their booth up pretty early and maybe rob some cosplay kids on your way in so you have a ton of cash.  Not that I condone criminal activity mind you, but I'm just saying you gotta make sure your funds level is sufficient so you can get all your treasures back home.  Just don't try and rob anyone cosplaying as a cop, cause that will end poorly for you.

"Swamp Zombie" Bones from Mike Egan Releases Black Friday

Black Friday has always sounded like a great premise for a horror movie.  Think about it:  you have tons of people out shopping in what is supposed to be a happy time of year.  The last thing they are thinking about is for some masked madman to come ripping through there with a chainsaw and turning Black Friday RED!  If you read that last part like guy with the really deep voice who does all the movie trailers you would totally give me all your money so I could make this film cause it sounds that good.  There's trailers full of money to be made Hollywood, so let's do this.  And I swear to God if someone does it and I don't get credit I'm gonna sue the living crap out of everyone.  And by credit I mean a UHaul truck full of cash.

Mike Egan obviously gets how awesome it would be to see a thousand people trapped in Wal-Mart with some murderous beast.  How could he not when he is releasing his Swamp Zombie editions of his Bones figure on Black Friday?  Hell, a few of these guys could be the evil that has befallen the bargain shoppers.  I'd watch that.

He hand painted 25 of these dudes and they come with their own coffin for when they wanna nap.  $150 will get you one when they go on sale at 12am Eastern time at http://mikeegan.bigcartel.com.

DKE Exclusive Bones Figure from Mike Egan at Designer Con

This, is by far, the best Mike Egan toy release ever.  You lucky folks that are going to Designer Con this weekend will be able to score this hand painted Bones (the first time with wings!!!) figure housed in his own hand painted coffin.  DKE Toys will only have 25 of these morbid must-haves and they will be $150 each.  I am officially jealous of everyone who lives in California.  We really need something like this on the East Coast, like during the Spring when nothing else is going on and the weather is nice.  Someone make it happen and then give me credit for the idea.  Thanks.

Lulubell Toy Bodega x Mike Egan NYCC Exclusives

Lulubell Toy Bodega always brings the craziest stuff to New York Comic Con.  Their wares will blow your mind right out of the back of your skull and into the always long line for the ATM.  While your brain waits to make a withdrawal the rest of your body could be snagging one of these two exclusives from Mike Egan.  There will be 25 of those unpainted red Bones figures and 25 of those Red Lucky Devils and both will be $60 each.  No special release time has been announced, but you could always run straight to booth #408 and harass Amy until she tells you.  Actually she's really nice so you shouldn't harass her, you should just ask politely and not be weird about it.

Light Blue Lucky Figure from Mike Egan

I'd like to think that all of the crazy artifacts we've found in Egypt were just their versions of collectibles.  All of their gods were just characters in an ongoing narrative, like Batman or something, and the statues and trinkets were just their way of merchandising.  I picture kids lined up to snag the new exclusive Anubis stone figure at the Nile Comic Convention.  Then we come along much later and get it all wrong, thinking they actually worshipped these characters as deities.  Maybe one day someone will dig through our rubble and determine that we worshipped Hello Kitty based on all of the products that will no doubt survive any natural or man made disaster.

This Lucky figure from Mike Egan kind of has a folk art/artifact look to it.  Like it was found in a swamp in Louisiana and whoever posses it will be tormented by ancient souls.  This version was cast in a light blue plastic and painted black giving it that aforementioned spooky look.  Yes, it may contain the spirit of a long dead shaman, but it will still look really cool on your shelf.  Only 25 were made and they are on sale right now at http://mikeegan.bigcartel.com/.

Mike Egan SDCC Exclusives Available Now at Lulubell Toy Bodega

Mike Egan is my favorite artist who used to be an embalmer.  Come to think of it, I don't know anyone who used to prepare corpses and make neo-folk art.  But that still makes him my favorite.  The man has experienced death in ways most of us never will and I think that gives his paintings a unique truth to them, as they were crafted by hands that have transformed people's loved ones into the last physical image they will ever see of them.  It's eerie and it's poetic in the same breath.

Another one of his characters entered the 3D realm this past San Diego Comic Con and now Lulubell Toy Bodega has the few remaining pieces for those of us that were unable to be there in person.  Lucky is available in both black and orange and makes a nice companion piece to his previously released Bones figure.  They also have a few copies of his Death Goes Pop book in which he painted portraits of some of pop cultures most recognizable characters.  Each on also come with a hand embellished and signed print.

Check out more of his work at http://www.eganpaintings.com/.

More SDCC Exclusives from Mike Egan x DKE

I was wondering how long it would take for Mike Egan to release a follow up to his incredibly popular Bones toy.  And here is my answer.  He has once again teamed up with DKE to produce a killer figure, this time it's that bearded devil Lucky.  You can get him in either orange or black, but I say:

I already told you about his Death Goes Pop book that will be available at the con, but did you know you can buy all of the original art from it?  And for only $75!!!!!!!  He's taken some of the most iconic characters in entertainment and given them his classic folk art twist.  This is the best deal you will find the entire time you are there.  You probably can't even get a hot dog for $75.

More SDCC Exclusives from DKE

What's this?  A book?  I don't get to talk about my love for the printed page too much, but aside from collecting toys I do love to read.  And I really dig Mike Egan's paintings, so I would call this a win win.  DKE will have 100 copies of this book with a signed bookplate and hand embellished screen print.  All that for only $25!  That's a steal if you ask me.

You wanna know what happens when you spray pesticide near Smurf Village?  Well, here are the results.  David Flores has made those little mushroom dweller 100% less lame by giving them the Deathhead makeover.  Only 50 of them were made in red and for $110, it will give your kids nightmares for years to come.  See, another great value.

If this is what's lurking in space then I'll be happy to stay with my feet firmly planted in New Jersey.  Killer Bootlegs is exposing what the government won't tell us with this crazy looking figure.  I can picture this guy riding around on top of the Mars Rover like a mechanical bull in between his rounds of interstellar terror.  I bet the Russians are behind this.  Only 25 were made and they'll be $100 each.
