Mimomicros Want To Store Your Stuff

Mimoco makes Mimobots, those cute little USB drives that have turned into amazing art platform and collectable.  Now they introduce Mimomicro, a new USB flash drive/microSD memory card reader.  What really sets these apart from their predecessors (in the opinion of a collector) is the fact that rather than conforming to one specific shape, each one of these guys is sculpted based on the character.  I'm eyeing up that Darth Vader one to add to my growing collection based around the Sith Lord.  But Batman is pretty cool too.  And what better way to hide all those files you don't want the government finding in case you get incarcerated.  But they don't come out until March, so try to resist your criminal urges until then.

This is how they work.  I don't know where the actual wizardry comes into play, but that's probably a company secret.   There has to be wizardry, right?

Mini Qee from MCA x Toy2r

Check out this teaser image of an upcoming Mini Qee from MCA and Toy2R.  According to the info they sent me, they head and tail will be sculpted so the final product might not be too far from what you see, just in Qee form.  MCA made some killer stuff way back when I first started collecting.  In fact, his toys where some of the first I was ever able to get, thanks in part to Tower Records closing.  I cleaned them out during liquidation and wish I had been able to get more.  I'm glad to see he's back with another figure and one that looks to be pretty wild at that.

February Releases From NECA

NECA makes some pretty cool toys at a ridiculously fast pace.  Every time I go to the store they have new stuff out that I haven't seen before and there's always a tons of different things.  Sometimes I think I've forgotten how to use the internet to see what's new, or that I have some massive head injury that I don't remember that causes me to lose track of toys that are coming out.  If the latter is the case, I must be having a symptom free day because I found out about these new releases before seeing them in Toys R Us.   First up is the Deadite Ash from Evil Dead 2.  Shockingly enough they are remaking the first one, which is a pretty typical Hollywood thing to do.  Here is my recreation of how that meeting went down.

Executive #1:  What older movies do people love that we haven't remade and completely ruined yet?

Executive #2:  Well, we screwed up Clash of the Titans already, how about Evil Dead?

Executive #1: Brilliant!

What's most shocking to me is that Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell are both on board with this remake.  And the role of Ash will actually be played by a girl!  I don't know why this is happening, it kinda has the whole "tinkering with Star Wars" vibe that has irritated me for years.  Stephen King doesn't rewrite his books, so people should stop changing their films.

You will also be able to pick up figures from Rocky next month.  Both Rocky and Apollo will come in regular and "just got my teeth knocked down my throat" versions.  My only Rocky related story is that I live fairly close to Philadelphia and am  huge Flyers fan.  After every game at the exit to the parking lot there is a man that plays the Rocky theme on his trumpet over and over again.  It doesn't matter whether we won or lost or whether its below freezing and snowing, he is always there and always playing that song.  It's kinda weird, but it's also something that is a testament to just how unique the city is and just how important that movie is to it.  It's also a testament to the fact that he probably only knows that one song.

Welcome Our New Sponsor Creo Design!

It's our first ever sponsor and to celebrate we're gonna help you save some money on some really cool toys.  You can save 20% off the price of the Funghi figure from TADO or the Lawhill figure from  Akinori Oishi.  Both are extremely limited so the ability to get them for less than retail is something you should take advantage of.  Now there are a few steps you need to take to get your discount and I made you a nice little list so its easy to follow along:

1.) Post this saying on the Creo Design Facebook page (here) and then Tweet it to Creo @creodesign an @thetoyviking.  "I love TADO Creo Design and Toy Viking because I am a Funghi"

2.) That's pretty much it.  See how easy that was.

This offer is only good while supplies last so get going!!!

Black 13 Calaverita from The Beast Brothers

Tomorrow is Friday the 13th.  It's a day where superstitious people refuse to leave their beds and teenagers are unceremoniously slaughtered by a man wearing a hockey mask as they do all those things their parents tell them not to.  But forget all that nonsense and feast your beady little eyes on this.  This sweet skull is made by The Beast Brothers, who you may know from their Kidrobot releases.  These are made of fiberglass and hand painted by the pair.  Each one will cost $130 and they go on sale today at 13.13pm EST (or 1:13, but that's not a sinister nor is it keeping with the theme).  Only 13 of these exist and would look great anywhere in your house that's been begging for a "scare the crap outta people" statement piece.

Don't forget that in February they'll be releasing their collaborative 8 inch Dunny with Huck Gee.  I can't wait to see what the complete toy looks like.

Living Dead Dolls Variant Set

Anyone that was lucky enough to snag the very first series of Living Dead Dolls knows that they're sitting on a gold mine.  Those figures are highly sought after and a lot of collectors would kill to have them.  For those of you that missed out on these creepy little babies the first go round, Mezco is now rereleasing that initial set to celebrate their 13th anniversary.  All of the paint and the clothing is the same, but the bodies are made differently and now have ball joints.  You can only buy these as a complete set for $190.  Only 240 sets were made and they're only available by clicking here.  I for one will live quite comfortably knowing these little weirdos will not be staring at me while I sleep.  These dolls are just one cursed monkey's paw away from terrorizing your family.

Kozik x Kidrobot Choice Cuts Labbit

I never thought of eating a Labbit before.  Sure, I have a lot of them around the house, always looking at me and judging me, but they never seemed that tasty.  Even if I wanted to eat one I wouldn't even know how to begin the complex process of breaking down the critter into edible bits.  Until now.  Frank Kozik, a man I've always thought of as a problem solver, has provided everything we need to butcher our own little tasty bugger with this Choice Cuts Labbit.  Kidrobot will be releasing this yummy morsel on February 9th for $80.  Yeah, I'm gonna need this.

January Releases from Super7

Thus far, 2012 has been challenging.  I had to scrounge up enough cash for a major repair to my wife's truck, got into a fight with a major credit card company who didn't realize I live in New Jersey and therefore am armed with tons of colorful language, and been a bit under the weather.  January has been no fun to say the least, but new toys can always make it better.  Super7 must be connected to my very thoughts because I have just stumbled upon this plethora of releases they have planned before this hellish month comes to an end.  First up are those yellow guys on the left.  Early Morning Garuru and Sunburnt Yellow Prick came out today and are only $35 each.  The white fella is Abominable Leroy C.  and his buddy DokoDuo come out next Thursday, January 19th and are also $35 each.  And finally you have the Green Hell on Wheels Casket Cruiser that releases January 26th for $65.  He costs a little bit more but is absolutely my favorite of the bunch.  I also bet his car doesn't have any moving parts that will eventually go bad and bring great sadness (and bills) to its owner.  That's probably why he's smiling.

DC Comics x Skelanimals

Skelanimals are kinda weird.  They're like roadkill that doesn't smell bad or leak all over the place when you try to cuddle it.  And because they're not real no one will call the police and have you committed for being a complete nut job.  That being said, Skelanimals and DC Comics have teamed up to bring you these costumed dead things.  They're kinda cute I suppose, and it's always nice to see two popular companies come together and create something new.  The Flash freaks me a out a little bit though, with his bit of skull poking out of the bottom of his mask.  I don't trust him.

Boba Fett Jumbo Machinder from Super7

Super7 is releasing teasers all week of the toys you can expect to see from them this year and the first one is a biggie.  Following the success of their Stormtrooper figure comes everyone's favorite Bounty Hunter (not the guy with the mullet) Boba Fett!!!  We've kinda known about this one for awhile, but now we know it will see the light of day before they end of the year.

January Ninja of the Month from Shawnimals

Guess what today is?  Other than Wednesday.  Other than the day Top Chef airs.  It's Ninja of the Month release day!!!!!!!  Action Ninja is the first for 2012, and comes complete with everything a newscaster needs: a microphone, a nice tie, and Donald Trump hair that no hurricane could mess up.  You should click here right now and get your little news buddy for only $30.  As always, each ninja is hand made by Shawnimals and comes signed and numbered.  They go on sale at 1pm CDT and there are only 100 of them out there, so stop watching cat videos and start ordering.

Creo Design x Tado Mushroom Contest

Creo Design and Tado are both creative forces and now they want to reward you for your imagination. They want you to take a cool picture of a mushroom.  Easy right?  But you have to make it stand out from everyone else's because the 10 best photos will be able to buy the new Tado Funghi figure for 40% off.  You have until January 27th to post your photo on the Creo Design Facebook page located here.

Suicidal Tendencies x Zac Pac Mr. Skum

You remember Suicidal Tendencies.  They had that song Institutionalized about a bro who's parents didn't get him and he sang it all fast and it made you hyper and made you feel that no one understood you or that you liked to skateboard and listen to punk and dye your hair blue and have ripped jeans and hang out with kids that were a bad influence and write dark poetry in your dream journal and....Well anyway, that band decided that they needed a toy and here you have it.  This is the exclusive color made for Kidrobot and it's limited to 50 pieces and costs $120.  Oh, and he comes with a wee little hat that he can wear too.   Those things are like $40 bucks alone if you buy one for regular sized folks.

Halo Reach Series 6 from McFarlane Toys

Is your significant other a Halo fan?  If you answered "yes" to that question than I will go ahead and say "you're welcome" because I just did all of your Valentine's Day shopping for you.  This February Mcfarlane Toys will be releasing the 6th series of Halo:Reach figures.  Just look at them, in all their uber detailed glory, just waiting to make the one you love happy this holiday.  And there's 8 of them, which means if they open the packages you'll be left with hours of peace and quiet while they reenact epic space battles in the living room.  And if they keep them in the packages then you'll have 8 more things to dust every month.

Huck Gee at Jinxed in Philadelphia

Last night I was lucky enough to meet one of the most well known designers in the vinyl toy scene.  Everything Huck Gee releases sells out almost immediately, from his production toys to his custom figures which can cost more than the average person's rent.  The guy is amazing at what he does and he has collected pictures from his career into a book that is a must have for any toy fan.  Some of my favorite images are of the production specifications that companies send to the factories that actually produce the toys.  They give you a sense of the amount of work that goes into one little piece of plastic; from its over all design to the way an accessory will fit into its hand, the attention to detail is paramount for the outcome to be correct.  You're also given a glimpse at toy ideas that were submitted for production but for one reason or another have yet to be created.  This is something you may occasionally find online if you're lucky, but most of the time is reserved for people who are rarely willing to divulge their secrets.

I took more pictures than just this one and you can find them on our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/TheToyViking.  Jinxed also has a few of the limited edition white cover art books left that Huck was awesome enough to sign for those unable to attend.  Get in contact with them by going to their Facebook page at www.facebook.com/jinxed.philly and get one before they're gone.

The Coolest Mickey Mouse Figure Ever

Now this is something from Disney I can get behind!   This reinvention of the mouse comes courtesy of David Flores and Hellfire.  I had never heard of Hellfire, but they have quickly become my new favorite clothing label.  Seriously, check out their website because everything is really reasonably priced and really really cool.  David Flores is a well known toy designer who has a very distinct style that is easily recognizable.  This is my early pick for Best Figure of 2012.   I have no idea how much it costs, when it comes out, or why I don't already own one, but this thing is sick.  Check out a few unpainted shots of the prototype below.

Star Wars Coins from the New Zealand Mint

For the Star Wars collector that absolutely must have it all, I present to you these fancy coin sets from the New Zealand Mint.  You got the good guys packaged in the Millennium Falcon, and the bad guys taking residence in Darth Vader's head.  Both cases also make cool noises from the movie, so you can hear Lord Vader breathe like an asthmatic every time you take a peak at your bounty.  These coins are actual legal tender on an island by the name of Niue, so if times get tough you could buy yourself a Slurpee or some Doritos.  These things aren't cheap and will run you $366 in US currency per set.

They are also doing a set of 40 coins that you can purchase individually and collect in a special binder.  They're not as detailed a the coins in the set, but they're still pretty cool.  They run about $18 US per coin, so if you did some math there the complete set would cost you about as much as the new master cylinder I'm having put in my truck.  Though you'll probably cry a lot less than I did.

You Should Be Our Facebook Friend

You see that box over there to the right--------->  You should be our friend on Facebook, cause sometimes I post different, funny, stupid things that you may not want to miss.  Be the envy of your friends and give that old "Like" button a click.  You'll feel better once you do.

Ooze Bat from Super7

Just when I get used to something it goes and changes on me (George Lucas I'm looking at you).  Super7 has now decided to release their toys on Thursdays instead of Fridays, so I'm a day late on this post.  But check out the Sherbet Swirl Ooze Bat from Chanmen.  It's made of pink and lime vinyl thats been mixed together to create a very cool effect.  How do they do it?  Magic I suppose.  He's available now for $55.

Humphrey Mooncalf Leprechaun Edition

This may be the least scary Leprechaun I've ever seen.  He looks like he's ready for a good night on the town, maybe he'll take in a local production of Les Mis, or dine on a gourmet meal while firming up his plans to run for mayor.  Thank God he doesn't look like that creepy little man that was in the Leprechaun horror films.  He set back the adorableness of little people with pots of gold by at least 100 years.
Humphrey Mooncalf is of course the creation of Dr. A and Pobber Toys, who have released several other editions of this figure in the past year.  This one is extremely limited with only 70 pieces made and will be available exclusively through Tomenosuke on January 8th.

K.Olin Tribu x Nathan Jurevicius Bunniguru

I'll never be confused as someone who is graceful.  I drop things all the time, I knock things over, I'm basically an uncoordinated yeti.  My clumsiness scares me into loving the creations of K. Olin Tribu from afar.  These are amazing works of art from some of the most famous toy designers  on the planet and they're all hand cast in porcelain.  Their latest release is Bunniguru from Nathan Jurevicius.  Only 50 pieces of this guy were made and they will run you 270 Euros.  They go on sale this Saturday so you better be ready if you want one because I doubt they will last.  Elevate your toy collection's status by infusing it with this great piece.  Just be more careful with it than I would.

The Avengers Pop! Vinyl from Funko

I like Funko.  I like that they create really cool toys and make them affordable and fairly easy to find.  Sure, it's fun to chase down a figure in which only 100 of them exist and it requires you to cross state lines and break various laws, but it's also fun to go to your local store and get exactly what you want without stressing yourself out.    Check out their latest offerings in their POP! Vinyl series, The Avengers.  Based on the characters from the upcoming movie, you could buy every one of them and still afford to see the film this Summer.  Take em with you, then reenact your favorite scenes afterwards at Olive Garden and ruin it for the other diners.  If you yell "spoiler alert" first you're totally in the clear.

World of Warcraft x Mega Bloks

What is this?  If there was ever a product that could possible pry the arthritis-riddled digits of WoW fans from their computers it is definitely this.  Mega Bloks has teamed up with the world's biggest online gaming franchise to bring you sets based on the insanely popular game.  These were previewed at Blizzcon this year and attendees were able to get one of the special Thrall figures to get them all excited to build their fantasy lives out of tangible material.  With an almost endless supply of material, the folks at Mega Bloks will surely create building sets that even the none Warcrafter could appreciate.   Now, in order to get your hands out of keyboard mode and able to close again like a normal person's, I suggest you start planning their rehabilitation now.  Cause while you could order the set online while you're waiting for the rest of your guild to wake up, you're gonna have to put them together yourself.

New Uglydolls for 2012

The New Year brings with is promises that we make yet very seldom keep.  Some of us will eat less, or spend less, or watch less tv.  Have you noticed how all resolutions are based around depriving ourselves of the things we want?  That's kinda crappy.  Uglydolls don't feel that way though, so they're adding more  characters to make you happy in 2012.  You can get the fluffy pink Gragon, or the blue Softy, who I'm sure is just as fluffy.  These are available for preorder now on the Uglydolls site, so instead of making dumb commitments to yourself that won't make it to February, indulge a bit and get some new toys.  Plus, we're all gonna explode at the end of this year anyway right?  Might as well have something soft to hold onto when Armageddon is thrashing us about.

Super7 Pumpkin Boy Surprise Release

In attempts to make sure 2012 will not suck, Super7 is releasing a surprise Pumpkin Boy!  He's made of a special marbled black and glow in the dark vinyl, as you can see from the mock up above.   You can preorder him now on the Super7 site for $50 and he will be shipped to you in February.  It's can be like a Valentine's Day present to yourself, which is kinda sad, but you'll never not show up to the amazing lobster dinner you spent all day preparing only to be forced to eat it by yourself when an ungrateful person who doesn't know how lucky she is goes MIA.  Or something.

Creo Design Announces New 2012 Releases

It's always nice to see a new toy company go all out and not only create things that feel different than what we usually see, but that are doing it at a consistent level.  Creo Design have been teasing us with images from the upcoming QiQi figure they've been working on and now we have a look at the colors that this little figure will come in.  You have your basic red, a metallic black, and my favorite, metallic red.  This is a figure that really has endless possibilities as far as customization goes, so I'm sure  after the initial release we'll see some other versions.

They've also announced a 5 inch tall version of this character named Loofing.  I don't know much about him, but he seems like a nice shroom (not the psychedelic kind I'm sure) loving bro.  I'll post pictures of the actual figure once they're released.

Support the Teal Cat Project

Ok, so I know this post isn't really about toys, but it is about an amazing cause you can help support.  It's called The Teal Cat Project and basically they take old ceramic cats, paint them teal, sell them online, and donate the money to help save cats everywhere.  I have 3 cats of my own so this is something I'm really excited to share with everyone.  Plus, you get a cool cat collectible that is numbered and limited edition.  If that doesn't speak to us as toy collectors I don't know what does.  Right now they are sold out of the cats, but their site says they will have more this month.  They also sell t-shirts and cards if that is more your thing.  Anything you can do to help will be greatly appreciated.

100% Metallic Gloomy Bear Bearbrick

Who knew that metallic pink could make blood spatter look that much better?   Medicom is making this 100% Gloomy Bear Bearbrick to go along with the 18,000 other items the cute little killer already has out.  He's gonna cost you $24.99 but as a bonus his shiny surface will reflect the sun into the eyes of someone you hate and cause them to crash their bicycle, probably disfiguring them for life.  Not that you would do that though.
